Taekwondo martial art is separated into two main styles:

World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) - This is the olypics sport style. Hands are rarely used, and strikes are made mainly with the legs.

International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) - Founded by the Korean General Choi Hong-Hi. Much more similar to kick-boxing. Punches are used a lot. Since the death of the general the ITF has been divided into three different private federations; each claiming to be the original purveyor. Takwwondo practice normally involves a long warm-up and stretching session before practice. Practtioners need extreme flexibility to perform many of the kicks. Taekwondo practitioners develop great physical endurance, flexibility and speed.

There are also forms, katas, which are part of Taekwondo. These are similar to Karate forms just that there are more, higher and more complicated kicks. Board, tile, brick and ice-breaking are all part of the Taekwondo syllabus. Taekwondo practitioners call their training place the dojan, and their training uniform, the dobok. The grading system is derived from Judo.
