Origins Angola is the original style of capoeira. It was only when Mestre Bimba in the early 1920's after having studied capoeira intensively for 5 years decided to go his own way. He started to train other people in his own style of Capoeira. He also claimed to have improved capoeira by incorporating fancy kicks from asian martial arts. He legitimised his style with several organised challenges, most famously against Gracie Jiujitsu trained grapplers, where he half the fights were losses and half were victories for him.  Music The music played in Capoeira Angola typically tend to be slower and more rythmic than that in Regional, where the game is (generally) faster moving Fighting Capoeira Angola trains a lot on the ground. Not the way Jiujitsu does where people go for submissions on the ground but with intricate combinations of strikes. In Regional, there are some moves on the ground but these are much more limited compared to Angola.
